Viggle: Hi Nem! Thank you so much for being here! Can you share your background with us?
Nem Perez: I have a traditional filmmaking background directing TV commercials, music videos, films, and advertising, so I've always considered myself a creative technologist. Hence, AI was a natural progression for me. Although I've worked on music videos and commercials, I have never been able to make a film because I lacked the necessary resources and insider access. For me, AI has provided much of the support I needed to bring my film ideas to life. I began developing numerous film concepts and getting started.
Viggle: How did you start experiencing with AI and Viggle?
Nem Perez: My first use of AI was when I used Midjourney. That’s when I started creating storyboards and using Runway to create trailers with those boards.
I discover many tools primarily through posts on X/Twitter, where people share about new releases. I've started exploring pre-visualization and utilizing Viggle extensively for character performances, leveraging motion capture technology. Our goal has been to gain more control, and tools like Viggle help us achieve that.
Viggle: What’s your Viggle workflow for this previsualization project?
Nem Perez: When clients come to me, I take the responsibility to inform them about the possibilities and limitations of AI. We have established workflows that provide us with a level of control similar to that of filmmakers because addressing clients' feedback is essential. We utilize tools like Viggle to maximize flexibility, enabling actors to lead their performances. This approach allows us to create scenes with purpose instead of relying on chance. Viggle is particularly effective for capturing full-body motion; when combined with other techniques, it can yield impressive results.
- We start with the script and then the director breaks down the script into different shots
- We rented out a green screen studio and used Storyblocker to project 3D environment
- Viggle: character swap
- Synthesize all the lighting and texture with Stable Diffusion; now we will use Runway’s video-to-video model.
Currently, we are developing another feature film, Terminator 2 Remake (c2remake.com), which is in the scriptwriting stage. We're planning to recruit 50 artists globally to create a film entirely using AI. Our release is planned for Spring 2025, and we hope to distribute it widely, potentially through theatrical rounds and sales.
Viggle: Incredible! What is your outlook on Generative AI?
Nem Perez: I believe this is the future. We’re witnessing a significant surge in indie filmmaking that highlights storytelling. While AI will eventually transform Hollywood, it’s already having an impact on the indie film sector. I hope to see these creators begin to earn money and see legal obstacles dismantled, enabling us to start monetizing this potential soon.
We just need to make sure not to forget about the human aspect to these stories and craft.
