Can you share your background and how AI fits into your creative journey?

Sylvia Nitzsche: I began my career as a graphic designer, but I later found a passion for motion design, animation, and video production. I have spent many years working independently as a motion designer. My interest in new technologies has always been strong. In 2020, I started to explore VR and AR, but sadly, those areas have not progressed as quickly as AI. When I first encountered AI in 2023, my initial reaction was one of shock and frustration. However, I soon recognized its potential to enhance my creative journey. Now, my focus is on uncovering the right stories to share.

How did you first discover Viggle, and what drew you to it?

Sylvia: I discovered Viggle through Project Odyssey. Viggle addresses a significant challenge 2D and 3D animators face when animating human characters. Creating skeletal rigs within 3D models and producing realistic movements is incredibly time-consuming, and the outcomes often appear unnatural. With Viggle, I achieve fluid, full-body motions and consistent character animation—all it takes is the appropriate reference video. I particularly value the green screen feature, which simplifies character isolation—a capability that many competing tools do not offer.

What’s your workflow when using Viggle for motion capture?

Sylvia: I based my video on a style test with an AI image-generation tool. As part of the experiment, I generated an image featuring a businesswoman alongside a goldfish in a bowl, intending to develop a story around it. The AI also assisted in crafting the script and voiceover. Subsequently, I created the storyboard with images generated by AI. A crucial part of this was an image of the main character, which I integrated with motion reference videos in Viggle. I then exported the animation using a green-screen background. In the compositing software, I applied green screen removal (keying) to allow the character to move freely in the scene, while the backgrounds were animated separately with another tool. Ultimately, I finalized the project through color correction, video editing, and lip syncing, utilizing additional AI tools and compositing software.

Alongside Viggle, Tripo can fit naturally into this workflow before the animation stage:

  • AI 3D model generator: Creators can use Tripo to turn a concept image, reference image, or text idea into a 3D character, prop, or scene asset before moving into animation.
  • HD Model for high-detail assets: When the project needs stronger visual quality, richer surface details, or a more polished character/prop for cinematic shots and storytelling, Tripo’s HD Model can help generate a more detailed 3D asset.
  • Smart Mesh for cleaner production workflows: When the asset needs to move into game engines, animation tools, or downstream editing, Tripo Smart Mesh helps create cleaner, more optimized geometry that is easier to work with than heavy, messy meshes.
  • Faster AI character pipeline: Together, Tripo and Viggle support a smoother workflow from visual concept to 3D model to animated character output, reducing the manual effort usually required for modeling, rigging, and motion setup.

How do you see AI changing the creative industry?

Sylvia: My viewpoint on AI evolves on a daily basis, yet one fact stands consistent: AI will significantly influence our field. At times, seasoned designers might serve as curators, directing AI to enhance creative processes. Other times, I question whether everything will simply be automated. Additionally, freelancers could transform into multifaceted designers, operating their own independent studios. However, these thoughts are mere speculation. What remains indisputable is that AI empowers us to tackle bigger projects and finish them considerably quicker.

What’s next for you, and how do you see Viggle fitting into your future projects?

Sylvia: Viggle aligns perfectly with my passion for creating music videos. I imagine musicians sporting vibrant outfits and distinct styles, and Viggle helps transform those visuals into reality. Nonetheless, we must ensure that our use of AI is legally compliant and equitable. As a woman, I perceive AI as a formidable tool for expressing my narratives and perspectives. Currently, many AI-generated videos perpetuate gender stereotypes and biases. We can challenge these conventions by crafting new stories and presenting unique viewpoints. AI enables this — we simply need to engage with it thoughtfully and creatively.
